ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED

Proxy Connection Failed

Chrome is configured to use a proxy server, but the connection to the proxy failed. The proxy is misconfigured, offline, or blocking the request.

Why this happens

  • Proxy settings are configured incorrectly (wrong host/port)
  • The proxy server is offline or unreachable
  • VPN software left behind broken proxy settings after uninstalling
  • Corporate proxy requires authentication but credentials are wrong
  • ISP transparent proxy is malfunctioning

How to fix it

  1. 1

Open Chrome Settings → System → Open your computer's proxy settings and disable any proxy

  2. 2

Check if a VPN that was removed left proxy settings behind

  3. 3

If on a corporate network, verify your proxy settings with IT

  4. 4

Run "netsh winhttp reset proxy" in an admin command prompt on Windows

  5. 5

On macOS: System Settings → Network → Proxies and disable all
