Terms of Use

Last updated May 2026. Plain-English account of what using StatusDetector commits you (and us) to.

What this site is

StatusDetector is an independent status-intelligence site. We aggregate three signals — official vendor status feeds, our own HTTP/SSL probes from a fixed location, and anonymous community reports — to produce a confidence-weighted view of whether a service is up. The site also publishes long-form explainers, technical reference pages, and a handful of free diagnostic tools (DNS lookup, status-meaning decoder, website-down checker, and others).

Not affiliated with any brand, service, government agency, carrier, bank, airline, or service provider referenced on this site. Status data is provided for informational purposes only.

No warranty

The status data, decoded explanations, and tool results we publish are estimates, not guarantees. Vendor status pages lag real incidents; our probes can be blocked by anti-bot rules; user reports can be noisy. The site is offered “as is”, without any express or implied warranty of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or availability. We disclaim liability for decisions you make based on what you read here.

For anything where accuracy actually matters — a banking dispute, an immigration deadline, a shipping insurance claim, an SLA conversation with a vendor — go to the canonical source. Our role is to help you triage, not to be the system of record.

Acceptable use

You may use the site, the tools, and the published content freely for personal and commercial purposes. You may NOT:

  • Scrape, crawl, or systematically copy pages at a rate that interferes with normal operation.
  • Attempt to bypass the rate limits on any of our API routes.
  • Use the website-down-checker, DNS lookup, or other diagnostic tools to probe networks you do not own or have explicit permission to test.
  • Submit user reports that you know to be false, or use the report form to harass any vendor or service operator.
  • Reverse-engineer, deobfuscate, or attempt to extract source code that isn't already published.
  • Use the site or its content in any way that violates applicable law in your jurisdiction.

Embedded badges

The embeddable status badges at /embed are provided as iframes you can drop into your own site. You may use them freely. The iframe's content remains under our control — we may update the visual treatment, add fields, or change the cache cadence. We do not load advertising scripts in the embed routes (see Privacy), so embedding a badge does not cause your visitors to load Google ad scripts on your behalf.

Third-party trademarks

Brand names, logos, and service names mentioned on the site are trademarks of their respective owners. Their use here is purely descriptive — we identify the services we report status on. Nothing on the site implies endorsement by, partnership with, or any official relationship to those services.

Content licensing

Original editorial content on the site (the long-form blog posts in particular) is © 2026 StatusDetector. Quoting a paragraph with attribution is fine. Wholesale republication, especially behind a paywall or with paragraphs rewritten lightly by an LLM, is not. Email us if you want to do something we haven't obviously permitted.

Changes

We may revise these terms. Material changes will be reflected by an updated “Last updated” date at the top of this page; non-material edits (typos, clarifications) will not. Continued use of the site after a revision means you accept the revised terms.

Privacy

For everything about what we collect, what we don't, how cookies and Google AdSense are handled, and your rights under GDPR / CCPA, see the Privacy Policy.
